Barnes, Kirkwood and Woolf was established in 1924. Nigel Smith qualified as a chartered surveyor with BKW in 1987 and then spent the following ten years working in various chartered surveying practices.

In 1997, Nigel became the sole principle of BKW. The practice now has three partners and offices in London and Surrey.
